Description:

Sykes Camp is the busiest backcountry camp in the Los Padres National Forest.  Famous for the hot spring that shares the same name, Sykes is approximately 9 miles from the Big Sur - Pine Ridge Trailhead.  Sykes is busy year round and is over capacity most weekends and holidays.  There are a few designated campsites and quite a few illegal camps strewn about due to the massive amount of people who attempt to camp at Sykes on a weekly basis.

We recommend visiting Sykes during midweek or other off-times and if you happen to be out there during the weekend or holidays, try looking to camp at some of the nearby camps such as Redwood Creek, Barlow or Terrace Creek.  Sykes can be overrun, please do what you can to help the situation and lesson your impact on the area.
