Last Chance Camp - Ventana Survey - 07-01-2018 - by Bryant Koger
Link: Last Chance Camp - Ventana
Date: 07-01-2018
Surveyor Name:Bryant Koger
Camp Description:Although the camp is located in a large opening near a Riparian Habitat, most of the area is sloped and full of holes from squirrels as well as other animals. Wasn't ideal for pitching tents.

There were mosquitos and biting flies, but not as bad as near Willow Springs camp.

The creek next to camp was not running, but with some bush whacking you could get to its stagnant water. I ended up getting water from a stream located shortly before camp when coming up from Arroyo Seco campground and then hauling it back to camp. Luckily I had brought an extra water bladder.

The two trials coming from Arroyo Seco were in horrible condition with the Santa Lucia trail being the worse of the two. Both had lots of poison oak and over growth. The Santa Lucia trail was difficult to follow at times, was completely grown over often along the creek.
Water Source:Stagnant
Water Source Details:The water wasn't moving in the creek at camp, plus the creek was extremely difficult to get to due poison oak, fallen debris and large plant growth.
Weather Conditions:It was pretty hot both during the day and night. Didn't use my jacket, slept on top of my bag and soaked my bandana under my hat during the day.
