Description:

Campo Alto is a car campground located at the top of Cerro Noroeste in the Mt. Pinos region of the Los Padres National Forest.  Located at 8.250ft, the campground is shaded by a thick blanket of Jeffrey pine and offers great views of the Los Padres and surrounding areas.

Campo Alto supports recreational vehicles up to 30 feet and can be reserved on www.Recreation.gov. There are 12 campsites with tables and fire rings that accomodate up to 8 people per site.  The campground is also the western trailhead to the Vincent Tumameit Trail which heads into the Chumash Wilderness.

NOTE: The campground and road to Cerro Noroeste close seasonally due to snow from November through May.  Call the Mt. Pinos Ranger District to confirm (661) 245-3731.

Directions: Located off Mil Potrero Highway, approximately three miles west Pine Mountain Club. Take Forest Road 9N27 south for 6 miles.

Camp Description:Stopped in to visit the Summit of Cerro Noroeste. Camp was in good condition with only one small group of people leaving shortly after I arrived. Signed the Sierra Club's 100 peaks section register which is well hidden. The Andy Gumps outside the boarded up pit toilets were surprisingly very clean. No water is available here. Tumamait and Mesa spring trails are very nearby and in excellent condition. The dirt road leaving campsite #1 will lead you to the summit and radio tower https://christopherplord.blogspot.com/2018/11/cerro-noroeste-summit-to-mesa-spring.html
