Camp Description: | To find water, go to the lower camp with the oaks below the main valley. The pools next to the lower camp are dry but if you follow the stream up 50-100 yards just outside the main cam to the left, there is cold water trickling down, You need a cup to pull water from the pool but there is nice clean tasting water flowing.
The water crossings on the road were both dry!
The sespe hot spring pools were wash out in the winter of 2021 and people have not rebuilt them as of 11/22. I recommend people hike in a shovel and rebuild the pools to their former glory!

Camp Description: | We were so fortunate to see the Big Horned Sheep! Very exciting.
The Hot Springs were amazing. We found the rock that the Spring of water runs off of. The rock is steaming. The water is scalding hot. A touch to with a finger tip is more than a person can handle. The pools further down do cool down. Any of the pools close to the Mama rock are too hot to touch.
The pools by the palm tree and beyond are absolutely delightful. In the evening and in the morning dips. There was one down tree from the campground to the pools. Also brush overhang. |

Water Source Details: | Plenty of water along the campgrounds |
Weather Conditions: | 80's day night temps were probably 60's |

Camp Description: | Stayed at the lower camps before the fork to Johnston Ridge and the palm camp. Hot spring had a strong flow. The cold spring wasn’t flowing when I got there, but when I got up in the morning there was a very small trickle of water, just enough to fill up my pack and get back home. |

Camp Description: | We hiked a loop from Sespe river trailhead to the hot springs, up Johnston ridge to cedar creek and down the Gene Marshal Trail back to the car. By day 2 we were both ill. We shared no food. We filtered our water separately with sawyers. When we got home we tested the water and the dissolved solids were extremely high. Be warned that there might be heavy metals or dissolved solids in some water sources that will make you ill. Our symptoms matched low level heavy metal exposure. |

Camp Description: | I backpacked Gold Hill trailhead to Sespe Hot Springs via Stonehouse Trail 3/17-20/19. One guy was at the Palm Tree when I got there. He'd day hiked in from Willet, and said that the Sespe was "belly button deep" when he crossed it. I hope he got back to Piedra Blanca safely! The herd of Big Horned Sheep that I saw in Oct 2018 was there again. See photo. I lounged in a separate mini-hot spring 40' from the Palm Tree campsite. The creek is flowing so fast with rain water that the hot water gets diluted real quick.  |

Camp Description: | My first visit here since 1994. Wow. The entire valley is now hot water with multiple streams flowing. The west fork above hot springs used to be a cold water stream. Rainstorms in the past (2005?) wiped out the flats where we used to camp right beside the hillside hot spring.Â
About 1 mile downstream, 1/4 mile below the junction with Johnson Ridge trail, I found a pool, still hot, but cool enough to lower my aching carcass into, after my long hike into the Hot Springs. Nice!
I ended up filtering the hot water to drink, afraid I'd melt my MSR filter. It turned out ok, and with some coffee powder, I had my morning joe, with no need to use my stove!
Absolutely the most fascinating geological oddity in Southern California.

Camp Description: | If you enter the campground from the Johnston Ridge Trail, the water was just right for a dip around the campsite entrance. A cool stream trickles to the right of the campground where you can purify water. I did not see any bear droppings and another backpacker told me bears do not frequent the area much.
