Nettle Spring Survey - 12-11-2020 - by John Doe

Surveyor Name:John Doe
Camp Description:2016 FS topo indicates two springs - one up the hill and one in the creekbed. The former is a small hose, between the road crossing and the old camp. Did not locate the latter, but I wasn’t really looking. The difference in vegetation indicates it must be there (probably feeds the hose), even evident along the toad springs route on the other side of the hill. Not sure I’d count on this one during drought years.
Water Source:Trickle
Water Source Details:Slowly glug-glug-glugging out a small hose. Would take a while to fill a jug. Downstream pools are very shallow and many stay frozen all day long.
Weather Conditions:Cold and crispy

Camp Description:I drove up Apache Canyon to check out the area for pulling a travel trailer. I would not recommend anything longer than 10 feet or with low clearance due to the steep entry and exit river crossings and deep ruts. The road is passable by car. The camp is dumpy and not very inviting. At mile 4-5 there are great dispersed camp spots along the stream with lots of shade. There was good flowing water at these spots. At Nettle Springs there was a trickle of water coming out of the hill side and a trickle flowing along the stream bed.
