Camp Description: | Hiked up the West side of the mountain. It was a very steep scramble over rocks and through bushes. The trail was overgrown in many areas. My buddy wore shorts and that was a BAD call. I made the mistake of carrying a full pack up as well which sucked. In hindsight a light day pack would have been the way to go. There were loose rocks too so caution is recommended.
The summit was awesome! Cool rock formations and the summit register was fresh with only a few signatures which was very surprising. There were lots of butterflies and the views were awesome! I enjoyed this summit far more than McKinley down the road a ways.
We went down the east side which is not as steep and without all of the large rocks that must be climbed. Small portions of the trail were overgrown but it was much better than the west side. There were still loose rocks that made for a slipping hazard so wear supportive boots.
I recommend the east side trail for anybody interested in doing this. I'll be doing this one again with the wife but from the east side.
