Description:

Special features:This camp lies amidst numerous large oaks and is surrounded by a two strand barbed wire fence designed to keep out range cattle in the area.

Historical highlights: This site was apparently named after Alejandro Ontiveros who established an early hunter retreat here. The land on which this camp is located was near the Tepusquet Grant given by the Mexican government to Tomas Olivera in 1838.

Camp Description:We found the camp to be overgrown with a lot poison oak.  The fire pits were free of ash and there was not any evidence of other campers.   Plenty of space for tents and lots of downed firewood around the camp.   The camp tables were in great shape and overall we found the camp to be very comfortable.

Camp Description:Hiked a Bike from Barrel Springs to Colson Canyon road.  Trail was very over grown.  Easy to to mistake a game trail for actual trail.Removed countless ticks from clothing.  Climbed over around and through at least five fallen trees on trail.  Between Alejandro camp and Colson canyon the was in great shape and easy to hike.

Camp Description:Alejandro Trail  is in good shape from Colson Canyon Rd. to Alejandro Camp considering it doesn't get much use.  wear protective clothing to guard off poison oak and ticks, LOTS OF TICKS!  Trail between Alejandro  Camp and Barrel Springs is very hard to follow, we had to turn around and head back up Alejandro Trail because it constantly dissappears.  Still, the hike was worth it because its a beautiful  lush canyon and very secluded.

Camp Description:Trail was very overgrown with poison oak.  Camp was completely covered in poison oak.  After taking one look at the camp we decided to continue on a few more miles over the ridge and down to Barrel Springs.  The trail between Alejandro camp and Barrel springs is difficult to follow at times.  We got stuck for about 45 minutes and could not find the way due to a incorrectly placed ribbon someone had tied to a tree.  The ribbon made us hang a right where the trail goes up the hill and then quickly dissipates to nothing.  Apparently others had done the same as the grass was matted down in this direction, further adding to the confusion.  the actual trail went straight along the side of the hill.

Camp Description:This camp has enough area to sleep an army in the grass under oaks and a couple of good tables.  For some reason, the tables have been surrounded by a barbed wire fence which is in pretty good repair.  The seat has been pulled up from the biffy, which is one of those affairs with a privacy wall on one side.  Quite a lot of ticks in the area. Water Source:Trickle
Water Source Details:Plenty of water, but often underground. Was flowing below the picnic tables.
Weather Conditions:sunny, very comfortable
